Senior Lecturer Emerita in Italian I joined the Romance Languages Department in August 2001 and retired in May 2026. During the twenty five years at the University of Georgia, I supervised instructors and lecturers, coordinated a thriving Italian language program and taught all levels of Italian language, literature and culture. Prior to the University of Georgia, I had been a senior lecturer at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where I was also the coordinator of the Italian program. Before Northwestern, I taught at the University of Arizona in Tucson and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. I have graduate degrees in Italian from Harvard University (Ph.D., 1986) and the University of Pittsburgh (M.A., 1979-1981). My undergraduate degree is in Modern Foreign Languages from the University of Calabria, Italy (1973-1977). My research interests include Language Teaching Pedagogy and Twentieth Century Italian Literature. I published and presented papers on the reception of the Italian novel in the immediate years before WWI; the interaction between literature and War, and the South in literature.
