Graduate Assistantships

Graduate Teaching Assistantship in the Department
New applicants to the Department of Romance Languages graduate programs should complete the form available on our application page if a teaching assistantship with full tuition remission and a stipend is desired. In 2024-25 students receive an annual payment of $16,137 (MA) and $22,864 (PhD) and a reduction of tuition to $25 per semester instead of the standard tuition. Work commitments are approximately 13 hours and 18 hours per week respectively. All graduate students can also apply for summer teaching and study abroad positions to fund the summer months.

Graduate School (University-wide) Assistantship
The Graduate School Assistantship is awarded on a competitive basis to recruit highly qualified students to UGA’s graduate programs. New applicants are nominated by their department, and evaluated by a faculty panel. Selections are based on the student’s academic record, test scores, recommendations, and other pertinent information.

Dissertation Completion Assistantships from the UGA Graduate School
Doctoral Research Assistantships are awarded each year on a competitive basis following a highly qualified student's nomination by their major department or school. Each nominee is evaluated by a faculty panel. The Doctoral Research Assistantships are available to doctoral students in their final year of study. These assistantships allow the student to devote time to the completion of their dissertation. At the completion of the assistantship award, the student is expected to have finished the dissertation and graduated. Written nominations from the faculty for the Graduate School Dissertation Completion Assistantships will be forwarded to the Graduate Studies Committee and decided by that body.
