The American Portuguese Studies Association (APSA), a leading organization for scholars and educators dedicated to the study of the Portuguese language and Lusophone world, announced the election of Dr. Cecília Rodrigues as its new president. With a long-standing commitment to advancing research and outreach in the field of Portuguese and Lusophone studies, Dr. Rodrigues' election marks an exciting new chapter for the association.

Founded in 1996, APSA has expanded globally, with members across four continents. Its mission is “to work to foster the expansion and spread of knowledge on the languages, peoples, and cultures of the many countries where Portuguese is spoken.” APSA achieves this work through research and outreach, including the Journal of Lusophone Studies and its biennial international conferences. As the new president, Dr. Rodrigues brings extensive experience and a deep passion for the Lusophone world.  "I am honored and humbled to accept the responsibility of leading APSA for the 2025-2027 period. I look forward to strengthening collaborations between both U.S. universities and Portuguese-speaking universities around the world. I am also excited to organize our next international conference that will take place in Princeton U. in 2026. Besides continuing to feature excellence in research, in this conference, I hope to carve out more space for dialogue pertaining to teaching, translation, and creative work,” said Dr. Rodrigues about her vision as APSA’s new president.

The Romance Languages Department is proud of Dr. Rodrigues’ election and it is looking forward to the amazing work APSA will achieve under her leadership.
