Portuguese Classes Receive Renowned Brazilian Musicians

Portuguese students in the Department of Romance Languages had the privilege of receiving Brazilian percussionist Bill Lucas and Brazilian singer Maria Kamila, lead singer of Perrengue’s band, last week to learn about Brazilian rhythms. New Romance Linguistics faculty co-publication with UGA alumnus

The article "Processing dissociations between raising and control in Brazilian Portuguese" recently appeared in the First View portion of the Journal of Linguistics. This article was co-published by UGA Department of Linguistics alumnus Dr. Douglas Merchant (PhD, 2019) and Dr. Timothy Gupton. This project started before the Covid-19 pandemic, and is the first manuscript resulting from this collaboration. Congratulations to them!

Jessica Tiegs

J. Tiegs is currently a lecturer of Spanish in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. She learned Spanish from a young age, prompting her interest in language and her later travels to Spanish-speaking countries. She has spent long periods of time working and/or doing research in Peru and Chile, as well as shorter stays in Costa Rica, Ecuador and Spain. Luana Santos

Luana Santos is an M.A. student at the University of Georgia. Her research interests are Brazilian music and literature. Luana also has an M.A. in education from Universidade Federal de Sergipe and has been teaching English and Portuguese as additional languages for the last ten years, in diverse settings.
